How to Join the OCC
Qualification
To become a Full Member of the OCC you have to have completed a non-stop ocean passage of at least 1000 nautical miles as skipper or member of the crew in a vessel under 70 ft (21.3m) LOA.
Alternatively you can join as an Associate Member. You need to have a serious interest in blue water cruising and intend to make a qualifying passage in the coming three years.
In either case you should be proposed by a Full Member of the OCC; an application will also be considered by the Committee if supported by a letter from some person of standing, such as a Flag Officer of a recognised Yacht Club, senior Naval Officer, Consular official, etc.
Membership Form
The application for full or associate membership is available on 2 pages of A4 paper which can be obtained by clicking on Membership Application Form and printing from the new window. This is an Adobe Acrobat file and will require Adobe software to open.
Subscription Rates and Joining Fee
Joining fee £50.00 (free for those under 30), Annual subscription £55.00 with reductions for various categories. A more detailed list of subscription rates are available here.
Mentoring Scheme
As an Associate Member you may ask to join the Mentoring scheme which will match you with a Member who will be able to answer the questions you still have after reading all the books, attending all the seminars and researching all the web sites. See below.
OCC Bursary
As a young sailor you may qualify for the OCC Bursary which will pay a large part of the costs of a qualifying ocean passage and help you find a skipper and a yacht.
