Port Officer's Medal

THE OCC PORT OFFICER MEDALS

The Port Officer Medal

For an outstanding contribution by a Port Officer

Note:- The OCC maintains a network of hundreds of Port Officers around the globe for the benefit of its members. This is a most unique service yet one that is warmly welcomed by those members who sail across the oceans of the world.

2011

George and Nancy Marvin - Port officers for Hobe Sound, Florida. The Awards Committee received the most nominations ever for the recipients of this award, a testament to the wonderful kindness, hospitality and generosity which the Marvins have shown to all OCC members over many years.

2010

Catia Carvalho – Port Officer for Quinta do Lorde, Madeira .

Despite being very busy with her work at Marina Quinta do Lorde, Catia always finds time to assist yachtsmen who have problems during their stay in Madeira. It would be rare to receive feedback and comment about Madeira without it including warm praise for Catia!

Frank Castella - Port Officer for Gran Canaria

Year after year Frank Castella our PO in Gran Canaria has provided support for the myriad of last minute issues our members have encountered as they have prepared for the start of the ARC.

Frank has always been proactive in this endeavour, watching the pontoons for a Flying Fish burgee and visiting associates to make sure they have everything they need for their qualifying passage. In the middle of this busy time he has also found room to support the Club's recruitment at this event by taking every opportunity to promote the OCC.

2009

The winner was Ted Laurentius, OCC Port Officer Newfoundland. Ted was unable to attend the presentation, but Doug Bruce collected the award on his behalf and reflected on Ted’s achievement in setting the bar ever higher over many years and providing invaluable information, advice and hospitality to those exploring not just St John’s but the entire island of Newfoundland. It would appear that Ted is a very popular character!

2008

Awarded to Wolfgang Reuter, Port Officer for Annapolis, Maryland, USA and Terry O’Brien, Port Officer for Lagos, Portugal, for the service they have given to members and the contribution they have made to developing their ports for the benefit of Ocean Cruising Club members and the cruising community as a whole.
