Recently the outboard on the tender of OCC Sailing Vessel Adagio had to be extensively cleaned because of the deterioration of biofuel gasoline with added ethenol taken on in California. By law in California, all gasoline must contain a proportion of ethanol. In a ten week voyage across the equator to New Caledonia, this fuel produced a gum deposit throughout the outboard fuel system; complete disassembly and cleaning was required and the fuel had to be discarded. This problem is also reported in the Australian Sailing Magazine Afloat June 2009 issue.
