Members of the OCC Committee have been asked from time to time to give advice to members wishing to buy of sell their boats. Many of the leading brokerage firms in the UK were contacted to find a source of specialist advice on yachts suitable for Blue Water Cruising. As a result of this a ‘partnership’ arrangement has been negotiated with the Berthon Group. They will give free advice to OCC members in return for publicity on the OCC site. The OCC Committee re-affirms that the club does not accept sponsorship and does not endorse any commercial operations
The OCC Committee has agreed to a partnership between the Ocean Cruising Club and Berthon Group, offering a secure marina and one of the best boatyard facilities in Europe.
Additionally,Berthon International Yacht Brokers with offices in Lymington, Golfe Juan in S France and Club Real Nautico, Palma, Mallorca specialise in bluewater cruising yachts, and who are the official broker to the Atlantic Race for Cruisers (ARC), will provide free brokerage advice and assistance to OCC members.
Advice on market conditions if undertaking a private sale to carrying out the administrative process on an agreed sale between two parties is available and Berthon will give free independent objective advice if you have seen and like a yacht that is already on the market, even if through another broker; alternatively, members can avail themselves of full brokerage service from Berthon for selling their boat worldwide or for a very much reduced fee, they will undertake the formal closing and completion procedure on an agreed private sale where appropriate. In selling over 200 yachts annually, Berthon International has for many years worked with up to 60 selected trustworthy brokerage houses worldwide and will also recommend the most appropriate course of action for non-UK based sales. 1. Berthon will list information specific to OCC members on their site. This will include the Berthon “pick of the month” feature. This will show Blue Water cruisers, featuring a few special yachts in an enews type format with click links for full specifications. The Berthon site also carries a half yearly analysis and report of the bluewater cruising yacht market specifically aimed at OCC members.
2. Berthon Publishes a Market Review and Lifestyle Magazine (click for on line versions). The lifestyle magazine is available each September and Market Report each April (circulation c.30,000). 3. An Enews letter (click here for previous editions) comprising of a simple single A4 page of what’s on and what’s been happening that month at Berthon is sent out monthly; Click on Enews subscription to subscribe direct.
4. Berthon Lymington Marina will provide berthing for visiting OCC members overnight, overweek, overwinter, over summer, or annual.
5. Full refit, repair and maintenance services are available at Berthon Boat Co Ltd offering fully trained skilled engineers with Caterpiller, Cummins Onan, Volvo Penta, Eberspacher, Webasto, Perkins, Mercury. 7. Finally, Berthon has kindly agreed to offer hospitality for OCC members at the London and Southampton Boat Shows. Berthon will offer a welcome seat, somewhere to leave your coat and a meeting place if desired. OCC Members do not need to contact Berthon in advance and those turning up on spec will always be welcomed.
