Shaheen is the Arabic name for a female Peregrine Falcon and the name epitomises powerful, silent, speed in flight. The Peregrine is capable of a sustained speed in level flight of over100 km/hour and has been recorded in a dive at well over 320 km/hour.
When I came to register the name on the UK Part 1 registry, “Shaheen” had already been taken and was not available. Not wanting to settle for “Shaheen of East Sheen” or similar ridiculous corruption, I adopted the Arabic definite article “Al”. “Al Shaheen” effectively means “The Shaheen”. |
