In 1923 the Cruising Club of America passed the following resolution:
‘Moved and seconded that the Club found, out of funds to be
sought for the purpose, a medal to be known as The Blue Water
Medal of the Cruising Club of America, to be awarded annually,
in the discretion of the Board of Governors, for the year’s most
meritorious example of seamanship, the recipient to be selected
from among the amateurs of all nations.’
