How to join

Eligibility for full membership depends on the candidate having completed a 1000-mile (minimum) non-stop passage between two ports by the shortest distance as skipper or crew in a craft of not more than 70 feet LOA. There is a class of Associate Membership for those not yet qualified but for whom a long passage is an ambition. On completion of the necessary miles promotion to full membership is automatic.

However, if a proposer is not available, an application will be considered by the commitee if supported by a letter from some person of standing, such as a Flag Officer of a recognised Yacht Club, senior Naval Officer Consular Official etc.
  • Qualification for Ordinary Membership consists of the completion of a port to port non-stop ocean passage of not less than 1000 miles as skipper or member of the crew in a craft of not more than 70 feet (21.3 metres) overall length.
  • Ordinary members are entitled to display the Club's burgee.
  • Candidates with a serious interest in cruising, who intend to complete a long distance passage but have not yet qualified, are invited to apply for Associate Membership of the Club.
  • The Committee also welcomes enquires from those whose work, experience or particular area of interest enables them to participate and contribute towards the aims and purpose of the OCC.
