SELF DEMONSTRATION OF CICCC PILOT WEB SITE. (7th April 2009)

If you follow these steps you will get a fair idea of the capabilities of the CICCC site and types of content on the site.

Click on http://ciccc.oceancruisingclub.org

Log in

Enter a user name of visitor1

Enter a password of testing.

Check the I agree the terms and conditions box (you have to do this every time you log in)

A list of Cruising Areas will appear.

Take a detailed tour of Portugal

Click on P and then Portugal.

Country Information and Cruising Information

Scroll down the page. You will see brief Country information and more detailed Cruising Information on Portugal. You could add to or change this by using the

‘Edit Country Information’ and ‘Edit Cruising Information’ links under the map. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED!

On the map:

Click on the second star from the top of the map

Click on Viana do Caslelo

Click on the picture

Click on Back

Click on Back to Portugal

Click on the arrow, Places please chose

Select any Place

Click on Back to Portugal

Centre the map on the Southern Portuguese, Spanish border by dragging map

Move the zoom control to look a the Southern stars. Ayamonte has been named in two reports. The approximate positions are not exactly the same.

Click on Arrow, Passages and Areas, Please chose,

Click on Ayamonte to Alcoutim.

Notice there are four locations named in addition to the start and finish location.

Click on Mertola. You jump to the detail. Mouse over Mertola (in yellow) and you will see the position.

Click on edit (at the top and bottom of the form)

You could now alter this report by changing the detail in the entry boxes, typing comment in the Comment box or adding or deleting images or files or adding locations – see boxes at the bottom of the edit page. PLEASE DO NOT ALTER THESE UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERT ON THE AREA!

Click on Cancel at the top or bottom of the page

Click on Back to Portugal.

Click on arrow Narratives on the OCC Main Site, Please Chose

This links you to the articles in the OCC Magazine, Flying Fish which have been identified by the site editor as relevant to Portugal. The same process could be applied to the journals of other Clubs.

Select ‘A lovely Summer Cruise’ as an example.

Use the search on this page feature on your browser to search for Portual. This will pick up instances of Portugal on this page.

Use the back button on your browser to return to the CICCC site.

Click on Web Links, Please Chose

As an example, Click on Harbours Caminha to Vila real de S. Antonio and click on Go to Ports Information.

Use the back button on your browser to return to the CICCC site.

Click on Manage web links and view descriptions to see more detail of the web links.

You wil see that the site has links to Noonsite from most Cruising Area pages.

Click on Back to Portugal at foot of page.

Add some Reports

You will see a HELP link at the top right of the page.

This gives instructions as to how to add Reports; you may not need to refer to these, it is pretty intuitive!

If you have experience of a particular area and are able to contribute to the site, you are very welcome to do so.

If you just wish to try it out please click on Cruising Area ‘Test’. This will take you to a ‘play area’ based on the UK Cruising area where you are free to add and change the information as you please. If you add a location with a latitude and longitude in UK waters, or ashore, it will show up on the map.

Add a Place Report

Add a Passage / Area Report

Edit Country Information

Edit Cruising Information

Click on Manage Web links to add a web link.

Please note that the editing software requires a special process to be used if pasting in from MS Word: N.B. If pasting from Word: (i) save as .txt (ii) select all (iii) copy (iv) click toggle-view (right hand) button below (v) paste (vi) save:
