We fitted an Echotec watermaker to Reverie, our Vancouver 32, whilst in Trinidad a few years ago. Basically we are delighted with it. The technology is bomb-proof and so relability has been 100%. We use the watermaker every other day during our 6 month cruising season each year. The unit comfortably produces 12 gallons per hour. The pump is driven by a 12v motor and this consumes some 45 amps. This means that we have to run the engine to cope with the demand. However we now have a routine that involves running the engine every other day, initially for topping up the batteries. Once the battery charge current is low enough to enable the alternator to deliver an additional 45 amps we switch on the watermaker. In conjunction with modest inputs from a solar panel and wind gen we provide for all of our electricity and water for about 2 to three hours engine running every other day. Please e-mail or phone if you require further information, I spent a long time researching watermakers and could talk a length on the subject!
