Lazy Jack was built Holland 1996 specifically for my wife Jackie and I to sail round the world, and we did so 1996 - 2002. We haven't been able to bring ourselves to sell her subsequently, but are getting older.
LOA63ft, aluminium, fin & skeg.
We designed her on the basis of some experience of ocean sailing and our priorities were:
- good sailpower down-wind, easy handling shorthanded (the Aerorig, which we found superb)
- Comfort when rolling down-wind (gimballed galley and one gimballed sea-berth, heel adjustable chart/table)
- that no-one need feel nervous on watch whatever the conditions (very well-protected centre cockpit, protected hatches up- & down-wind)
- reliability and self-sufficiency (all important equipment duplicated, big diesel tanks)
- Excellent electricity supplies (big traction batteries, 2 gensets, big water-maker, washing machine etc.)
- safety (solid guardrails on high bulwarks, v protected at mast.)
There aren't a lot of berths but 3 people can live on her comfortably on her for ever, and the living and socialising space is great.
