CLOUD NINE is a 57 ft Bowman ketch designed by Holman & Pye and
built in Emsworth, England in 1975. Her hull is fiberglass
painted Awlgrip “Cloud White” and the interior cabins are
handsomely finished with teak paneling. It is an exceptionally
fine long distance sailing yacht and was featured in the second
edition of Arthur Beiser’s book, “The Proper Yacht”. After
purchasing her in 1981 I have cruised over 200,000 miles, but
always maintained her in excellent condition. In his review, her
2007 surveyor stated “CLOUD NINE is one of the few ‘Classic’
yachts I have had the pleasure to survey. Clearly it has been
well and properly maintained”.
In 2007 CLOUD NINE became the first American sailing vessel in
history to transit the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the
Pacific and has many significant sailing accomplishments to her
credit including three circumnavigations. But having reached the
age of 77, I have decided to retire from active cruising and
reluctantly put CLOUD NINE up for sale. I will be cruising
southern Alaska and western Canada with my family this summer,
but you should be able to reach us.
She is complete with cruising equipment and electronics, an
extensive inventory of tools and spare parts, and also scuba
