Yard in Denmark for 58ft Wooden Yacht
Date: 2007/07/25 11:07 By: George Curtis Status:

We are looking for a wintering / ice free mooring with good yard to
undertake work on 58 foot wooden motor / sail yacht and I am writing
to ask if you have either the information I am looking for or where
we might find some helpful details of suitable yards.

Requirements are : a 60 ton lift ; a yard which understands this
type of hull ; engineering facilities ; electrics, electronics etc ;
and water which doesn't freeze during the winter as we daren't take
the boat out of the water for longer than a week or so.

We are interested in looking at Denmark. Seems to me they have a lot
of this type of craft still around so are more likely to have the
servicing facilities. Also all the Danes I have met so far speak
impeccable english. Copenhagen is a great idea for wintering but I
don't know if the water freezes.

Your help would be very much appreciated, Regards Richard Yates.

Hello, Try Soholm Yacht service in Denmark. They are in a sheltered lagoon called Nybol Nor just over the German border from Flensburg. They are very efficient, have a 60 metric ton lift and excellent yacht moving systems. We spent two winters there in a much smaller yacht but were very impressed.There is a boatworks there as well called NTH Baadvaerft which is excellent for woodwork and all other things to do with yachts. They outsource a lot of the work and generally act as "general contractors" but their own shipwrightsd are first class. The website of the yard is www.soeholm-yacht.dk and the guy who runs it is Mads Soholm (along with his sister and other relatives). The chap who runs the works is Niels Hymoller, a very nice guy. They all speak excellent English except Niels which can lead to some problems but there is a young shipwright there called Jonathan who is fluent in English,and nautical terms, and interpreted for us. Mention our name..Ian and Susan Grant, from Canadian yacht Rebel X. Niels website is www.nthboatyard.dk Let us know how you get on! Good luck!
