The OCC is greatly indebted to Ben Smith for the work he has put in as our Webmaster to set up the infrastructure of our web site www.oceancruisingclub.org . He has now asked to step down from the appointment.
We are therefore actively looking for a volunteer from the club for the appointment of OCC Webmaster. The responsibilities would be to look after the configuration of the site which uses the Mambo Open Source authoring package PHP, MySQL database and Linux operating system. The Webmaster is also the initial point of contact for emails sent to the site by the general public. Our experience is that this commitment would take on average a couple of hours a week. The site is set up so that editors other than the Webmaster may place documents on the site, so the editing duties of the Webmaster are not onerous. We do have plans to include blogs for Members Own Pages, a Google Earth presentation of the location of Port Officers, Dockages and Cruising Information and a more interactive Cruising Information Service possibly using Wiki processes; so we would welcome someone with enthusiasm for web innovation! A small honorarium is available; any additional paid work for the Club would be agreed on a task by task basis. We would prefer that the new Webmaster should be an OCC member and if you are at all interested please contact George Curtis to discuss the role in more detail. Applications from non members with Mambo experience and perferably an interest in Ocean Cruising will also be considered. Members see Search Members on the password protected site for George's e-mail address, non members use Contact Us in Left hand panel of this site to contact the OCC Secretary.
