Re:Dutchman mainsail furling system

Hello John,

We have the Dutchman system on Orinoco, our 38 Shannon ketch. It works well, but does require some careful adjustment (tension and positioning of the lines). Orinoco came with the system installed, so we didn't have any input. I feel that the placement of the gromets in the sails was not well thought out. There should be more of them because we have large flakes of sail that hang down below the boom. It could have been designed so that the battens would lay smoothly on top of the pleated sail.

The great advantage is that we don't need to worry about catching a batten on lazy jacks when raising the sails.

Hope this helps

Wayne
