Members of the OCC Committee have been asked from time to time to give advice to members wishing to buy of sell their boats. Many of the leading brokerage firms in the UK were contacted to find a source of specialist advice on yachts suitable for Blue Water Cruising. As a result of this a ‘partnership’ arrangement has been negotiated with the Berthon Group. They will give free advice to OCC members in return for publicity on the OCC site. The OCC Committee re-affirms that the club does not accept sponsorship and does not endorse any commercial operations |

LIFEBOAT crews fear being scuppered by crippling new charges for using their radios from Ofcom, the communications regulator. The RNLI could see the price of using its VHF emergency frequencies rise to £250,000 under plans to charge the full commercial rate.
A petition was organised on the 10 Downing St Web Site: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/RNLI-RF-licences/
Ofcom has responded: 'What we are proposing in the maritime case is simply to change the ways fees are worked out so that they aren’t based on the admin costs of issuing a licence, but on how much spectrum is used. Under our proposals the RNLI might actually pay less than they do now. We estimate that they could pay around £20,000 compared to the £40,000 that they currently pay'. |

The OCC has introduced a new bursary scheme the aim of which is to foster the development of ocean cruising by enabling young people to gain experience of long distance sailing. The bursary will facilitate the introduction of youngsters to experienced sailors and contribute towards the costs of the voyage.
